Sub-Elite Program

The 2019 TCS New York City Marathon is offering an enhanced start experience for the fastest entrants who are not part of the professional athlete field.  This program is for runners already entered in the race; it is not a method to get into the race itself. The benefits of the program include dedicated transportation to the start,* a special staging area before the race, a clear starting position at the front of the Orange Start, and a dedicated recovery area at the finish.

Standards for consideration for inclusion in this program are:

Men: 2:35 marathon or 1:12 half-marathon

Women: 3:05 marathon or 1:27 half-marathon

If you have met the standards above since January 1, 2018, and are interested in applying for this program, please email Jonni Lord at [email protected] no later than September 1, 2019. Please include the link to the website where your results can be verified.

Please note that submitting a time that meets these standards does not guarantee acceptance; due to space limitations, the program is limited to the 50 fastest male and 50 fastest female entrants who have achieved the above standards within the qualifying window.

*Athletes accepted into the sub-elite program MUST take the sub-elite bus to the start from midtown Manhattan on race morning. There are no exceptions. All athletes accepted into the sub-elite program will have their baggage transported together and will NOT be eligible for the Marathon Finish Line Poncho offered to participants who selected the “No-Baggage” option.
